Abstract
This factsheet summarizes results from a 2010 survey conducted by NHTSA regarding public attitudes towards distracted driving. This was the first of several national surveys on distracted driving, and the objective was to monitor public attitudes, knowledge, and self-reported behavior about cell phones, texting, and driver choices. The 2010 survey was administered by telephone to 6,002 respondents aged 18 years and older. The survey over-sampled young adults aged 18 to 34 years. The results demonstrated that while respondents answered phone calls on most driving trips, they felt unsafe when they observed others sending or reading messages.
