Abstract
This factsheet contains an overview of the Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, which sets out a proactive safety approach. The policy contains Vehicle Performance Guidance for Automated Vehicles, a Model State Policy, Current Regulatory Tools, and Modern Regulatory Tools.
These policies are rooted in the Department of Transportation’s view that automated vehicles hold potential benefits for safety, mobility, and sustainability. The primary focus of this policy is on highly automated vehicles (HAVs), or those in which the vehicle can take full control of the driving in at least some circumstances.
